Pokemon Deck Building Tips

pokemon pikachu and ashThe important thing to remember when collecting a a winning deck of Pokemon cards is to make sure it is balanced. A good Pokemon trainer should aim to possess a healthy balance between energy, trainer, basic and evolution cards.

Primarily you should concentrate on energy cards and aim to hold between 20 and 22 of them. Your choice should be influenced by the type of energy required by your Pokemon to launch their attacks. Attempt to create a deck which you only rely upon two or three types of energy so that you always have some when you need it. It is also handy to have at least one colorless energy card for a colorless Pokemon or if any type of energy is required for an attack.

Depending on how you use trainer cards you should have around 20 to 40 Pokemon cards in your deck. Of these Pokemon cards there should be a good proportion which have a decent attack as without them you might not survive long enough to use an evolution card usefully.

Trainer cards although useful are not entirely essential. The best ones will let you draw cards, heal / potion and search (energy search especially).
