Pokemon is a global franchise created by Satoshi Tajiri and owned by Nintendo. Since their introduction in the mid 1990’s, Pokemon have featured in trading cards, TV shows, video games, toys and various other mechandise.

The term ‘Pokemon’ originates from the Japenese word for ‘Pocket Monsters’. There are 493 Pocket Monsters or Pokemon which have featured in Pokemon Media.

The idea of Pokemon is based around collecting and is thought to have been based on the hobby of insect collecting. Pokemon players are known as Pokemon Trainers – and they have two main goals -

• To complete the Pokedex by obtaining all Pokemon species found in a region.
• To become the Pokemon Master by training captured Pokemon so that they can succesfully compete against teams owned by other Pokemon Trainers (Becoming The Strongest Trainer).
